Center for Civic Engagment

At Bard College Center For Civic Engagement, I serve as the Lead Education Outreach Fellow where I develop curricula and plan workshops for local partners such as after school programs, libraries, and school districts. I am currently running a year long computer science workshop at the Kingston YMCA. Our first month will be spent coding mini-games with C++ such as Ping Pong and Tetris.

Learning Games

Memoria is a game of memory for children in pre-school to second grade. The goal of the game is to match two of the same cards, only flipping over two cards at a time. In Memoria, students learn more about Spanish vocabulary, as every card is accompanied by a picture of food as well as the Spanish word.

I created a predator-prey simulation to be used inside the classroom as an interactive tool for elementary students studying remotely in the Red Hook, NY school district. The simulation shows the relationship between lions (predator) and sheep (prey). Students are able to add lion and sheep in order to explore instances of over and under population. The prototype was created in Processing and is now being designed using C++ with SFML graphics.

Red Hook Responds

In light of the Covid-19 pandemic, the Town of Red Hook created a response team, Red Hook Responds,  I lead a team of volunteer tutors who work in conjunction with the school district to provide tutoring to all student in need, free of charge. I also coordinate technical support for families who need help navigating their online schooling platforms such as Zoom and Microsoft Teams.

Girls Who Code

As a Trustee Leaders Scholar at Bard College, I run our Girls Who Code initiative. In partnership with the Kingston NY school district, I teach computer-science workshops at their high school's after-school program. I create all the curriculum for the semester-long themed corses. Fall 2021 is focused on equity and inclusion.
