Research Experience

I am currently completing my REU at the University of Washington in Seattle at the Code and Cognition Lab advised by Prof. Amy Ko.

Research Project:

Together with Jayne Everson, we taught Creatively Coding a Better Future to a diverse group of immigrant, first-generation, and low-income students in Seattle, Washington through the university’s Upward Bound program. We used a critically conscious, co-constructed curriculum that empowered students to critically think about their position in society and the systems of oppression situated around them, to embolden them to use computer science to create a future inclusive of their own narratives. Our research reveals the tensions which arise while teaching such a course, as well as the students’ critical consciousness through personal and group reflections completed throughout the course.
